Filmmaker Dante Tomaselli has made a name for himself with religious themed horror films such as Desecration, Horror and Satan’s Playground. His latest effort sees a young boy from a deeply religious family possessed by a terrifying evil.
Within five minutes, you could tell this was made by a true fan of horror films and one who has most certainly seen John Carpenter’s Halloween at that. The film is full of expressionism, hue, freaky imagery, brilliant cinematography and wonderful sound design, which is no mean feat in the low budget realm.
The solid cast which includes Christie Sanford, Vincent Pastore, Raine Brown and Danny Lopes help bring the ghoulish situations to life with gusto.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Imagine your worst nightmare extended for 90 minutes and realised on film and that’s the best way to describe Torture Chamber. The nightmare quality hampers the through-line a little, but this is a very promising effort from a talented director. I for one am now extremely looking forward to the Alice, Sweet Alice remake, because if Dante Tomaselli can achieve all this on a low budget, I can only imagine what he could do with more money.
