This film intrigued me as it sounded highly original – a group of friends abducted at the roadside awaken to find themselves in captivity in an old house with another group of people. A video plays on a TV in the room informing the group that they have been operated on. A glass vial has been attached to tubes implanted into their brain stems. They have 22 hours to produce enough dopamine and serotonin to fill their vials. The catch – in order to produce these fluids their bodies need to think that they are in danger. This forces the group to commit vile acts on one another to survive.
This film was a gritty little gem which reminded me a lot (in terms of setting) of Saw 2. The cast were good with Maya Hazen (Shrooms) playing a particularly nasty little bitch to great effect and at the opposite end of the scale you had Greg Cipes (Club Dread, Simon Says) as a laid back and likeable dude (as he always is in movies).
OVERALL SUMMARY
Some of the set pieces were truly wince-inducing, so anyone who couldn’t watch a Saw film won’t like this. Fans of torture porn however will probably find this quite refreshing. A decent effort.
