The first film out the gate from former Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist Slash’s newly formed horror genre production company Slasher Films, is this strange religious horror effort about a pastor who relocates with his family to nowhere, USA (“the town probably doesn’t even have a mall”, quips one character early on) only to discover the friendly locals harbour a dark secret.
Nothing Left to Fear is an aesthetic delight. I really liked the look of this film. You can’t fault the visual style or the cinematography. The cast which includes Anne Heche and Clancy Brown are also solid.
Where it fell flat for me was the story, pacing (it takes forever to get going) and the questionable visual effects.
OVERALL SUMMARY
This isn’t a bad film. A few of the nightmare sequences are really dreamy but it doesn’t really offer anything new and as small town scares go, the Halloween eps of Dawson’s Creek were more terrifying. I expected more from Slash and maybe that’s part of the problem…the audience will have pre-conceived ideas about what he’s likely to deliver and we can’t blame him for that.
